Internship Abroad: Kurahashi Festival

倉橋フェイスブック

I had countless incredible experiences that have left an indelible impact on my life during my time studying abroad. I met friends from numerous countries and learned valuable lessons about Japanese culture. It was a unique opportunity to examine my own American background and learn how to take charge of diverse groups of people and bridged the language barriers which held us back.

I spent long hours working with my fellow group members, two students from China, whom I consider as my close friends. I was also personally responsible for leading three volunteers and learned the delicate way in which you must interact with certain people to attain my desired results. It took tact and patience, but we held an excellent event at the Kurahashi Festival.

WorkTogether

This was a personal project of mine which I had to convince my classmates the concept and validity of my business idea in a short time period. My project was one of five proposals out of thirty to be chosen by popular vote. My team and I worked tirelessly to flush out the many aspects of my plan and to gather enough data to test its viability.

Unfortunately, it was also at this time Covid-19 began making headlines and my university closed the school for a week as we transitioned to online only classes. We were unable to get enough responses prior to the shutdown to establish a good rapport with our target demographic and left us with little more than rough estimates. I lost one team member during this time and was unable to contact with them again. Given the circumstances I absorbed his workload and requested that he be allowed to be given partial credit.

I believe our project went extremely well and certainly helped me hone my message. I believe that this terrible event serves as a test of our will to overcome the unforeseeable and adapt to succeed with what we are given.

Captivating Your Audience

It took considerable effort to successfully execute this project. We were working against the odds, being short on members to accomplish our goals. I discovered different ways to encourage my team members and keep everyone on the same page. As well, another member was going through personal issues which began to effect his work. I made sure to accommodate his needs and sat down with him for a one on one to see how I was able to help.

It took time and a lot of effort, but we managed to deliver a quality product on time, regardless of the hurdles set before us.

Healthier Tenet's for Tomorrow

Constructing this presentation took long hours of research. Often times the information would come from personal calls to education staff, as the answers were not always available in public records. The goal of the project was simple: To get healthier food into the hands of children of the Dallas Independent School District.

I learned the value of proper research and the truth you can reveal in cost analysis viability. It was a school project that we hoped to bring to the city council one day as a genuine proposal to help these kids.
